Mototech is proud to be a fully approved MOT Test Station, during 2023 we installed a brand new state of the art MOT testing bay and are able to conduct your vehicles MOT and rectify any defects found.
The MOT test was first introduced on a voluntary basis on 12 September 1960 under the direction of the Ministry of Transport, under powers in the Road Traffic Act 1956.
Currently cars over three years old must by law pass an annual MOT test to show they are roadworthy.
The MOT test involves numerous checks on your car, these include testing the brakes and fuel system to lights, mirrors, seat belts, windscreen wipers and exhaust emissions.
There are a few simple checks you can take prior to your vehicles MOT test to eliminate some common failure items. Check that your windscreen wipers, front and rear, clean the screen correctly and top up your washer fluid. Check the headlights, number plate lights, brake lights, hazard lights and indicators are all working as normal, replace any bulbs not working. Make sure your number plate is clean and readable.
Don't forget that you will not be able to tax your vehicle without a valid MOT certificate (unless exempt). If your vehicle tax is due for renewal, make sure you book an MOT test at Mototech, Portsmouth with sufficient time for testing before your tax expiry date.

Manufacturers Scheduled Service
Whilst your car is still covered by a manufacturers warranty, you will require the manufacturers service schedule, this ensures that your warranty is correctly maintained.
Full Service
This fully comprehensive service makes sure that all parts of your car are checked and tested. The full service headline items can include:
- Engine oil flush and filter replacement.
- Replace air fuel and pollen filters as required.
- Replace spark plugs if required.
- All fluids checked and topped up.
- Check battery and charging system.
- Visual inspection of front and rear brakes.
- Brake fluid tested.
- Inspection of steering and suspension components.
- Inspect all wheels tyres and pressures.
- Check all lights and obligatory MOT items.
- Inspection of fuel and exhaust system.
Interim Service
If your vehicle does not require, or your budget does not allow for a full service, maybe an interim or oil service is more appropriate. As the name suggests this is a more basic service, but is enough to ensure safe and reliable motoring.
On all of our servicing options you will be made aware of any further maintenance issues arising, for example brakes, tyres or timing belts, etc.

Neil served his apprenticeship with Wadham Stringer working on Rolls Royce and Jaguar cars.
He holds numerous qualifications including City & Guilds.
Neil is an accredited automotive technician under the Automotive Technician Accreditation scheme (ATA).
Steve Ford
Director / Co-owner.
Steve started working for Mototech whilst still at school, this led on to him serving an apprenticeship with us at Mototech.
Gaining experience over the past 15 years at Mototech, Steve is now a fully qualified, competent and knowledgeable Automotive Technician.
Jack Barker
Jack is an established member of the Mototech team. He trained for his Level 2 qualification at Highbury College and is a fully qualified Automotive Technician. Jack has gained a lot of experience at Mototech and is a valued member of our team.
